The e-Innovation Centre provides a range of computer facilities for tenants and customers, who are encouraged to make full use of them.

When using ANY of the e-Innovation Centre's IT facilities, it is necessary to observe the following conditions.

  1. To use the facilities only for business activities related to the specific business's located in or being assisted by, the e-Innovation Centre.
  2. To comply with the requirements of the Computer Misuse Act 1990; in particular not to access computer material without proper authority, or attempt to do so, or to make any unauthorised modification of computer material.
  3. To take responsibility for passwords which are issued for personal use only and equally to take responsibility for computers and other items borrowed.
  4. To observe copyright restrictions set out in the Copyright Design & Patents Act 1988 applicable to all items of proprietary software, including items of microcomputer software held on floppy disc. For the purposes of the e-Innovation Centre this is extended to include cd-rom, dvd or any other computer data storage media.
  5. Not to hold or process any personal data (as defined by the Data Protection Act 1998)
  6. Not to use or attempt to use user codes or passwords which have not been allocated to you, nor to use any facility or program intended to capture passwords or user codes.
  7. Not to access, use or attempt to gain access to non-public computer systems for which access has not been expressly granted to you.
  8. Not to send, receive or retain any material of an offensive or a discriminating nature.
  9. To observe any further conditions that may be applicable as a result of changes in the law or e-Innovation Centre policy, code or regulations.
  10. Not to install or use any unlicensed software on any computer belonging to the e-Innovation Centre or connected to the e-Innovation Centre's data network.

A breach of any of the foregoing conditions by any tenant or customer may result in the termination of any tenancy agreements or business assistance and in respect of breaches of conditions 2, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 may also render the tenant or customer liable to criminal proceedings.

The Computer Misuse Act 1990 makes it a criminal offence to access computer material without proper authority or attempt to do so, or to make unauthorised modification of computer material. Offenders are subject to imprisonment (maximum 5 years) or a fine or both.

The Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 makes it an offence to copy software without authority and it is immaterial whether such copying is done with a view to personal convenience or for monetary gain. Unlimited fines and up to 2 years' imprisonment may be imposed on offenders.

The Data Protection Act prohibits the collection, holding, processing or disclosure of personal information whether on a computer or in a structured filing system, unless the data user is properly registered and observes the Data Protection Principles.
